How to: Batch Import into WorkOut

Document ID: DQ260
Relevant to following products: WorkOut 2.0
Document description: How to: Batch Import into WorkOut

If you have a number of existing text files that you want to import into WorkOut, rather than importing them one by one you can create a batch file to import all of the files together.

  1. Create a protocol file to import your data files.
  2. Build up the command line argument to import the first file
  3. . Create a batch file to import each file.
  4. Run the batch file

For example:

You may have text files in a specific format stored in a directory called C:\data, that you would like to import

“import me 1.txt” “import me 2.txt” “import me 3.txt”

  1. Create a protocol called “My Importer.apr”. Use the existing text file “import me 1.txt”.
  2. Use the Command Line tool to create the first command line argument.
  3. This may look something like:

    C:\Program Files\Dazdaq\WorkOut 2.0\MRunRes.EXE "C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\My Assays\Protocols\My Importer.apr" "c:\data\import me1.txt"
  4. Create a batch file in notepad (e.g. save as “batch import.bat” – ensure you enter the quotes).  Copy the command line argument built up in the command line launcher tool into the Windows clipboard, then paste it into the new notepad document.  Repeat pasting and edit the file to impor in each as.

e.g. to import “import me 1.txt” “import me 2.txt” “import me 3.txt”  the batch file would look like this:

    C:\Program Files\Dazdaq\WorkOut 2.0\MRunRes.EXE "C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\My Assays\Protocols\My Importer.apr" "c:\data\import me1.txt"
    C:\Program Files\Dazdaq\WorkOut 2.0\MRunRes.EXE "C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\My Assays\Protocols\My Importer.apr" "c:\data\import me2.txt"
    C:\Program Files\Dazdaq\WorkOut 2.0\MRunRes.EXE "C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\My Assays\Protocols\My Importer.apr" "c:\data\import me3.txt"

Now launch the batch file “batch import.bat”

Here 3 separate instances of WorkOut will be opened, you may want to close each WorkOut window automatically after it has been imported.  To do this, simply add the /exit command at the end of each command line argument.
