Document description: How To: Export the report to Word containing the images embedded in the Word Document.

If you export a Word document and then open it on another PC some of the image files are missing. This is because the software stores the images in separate files which are referenced in the Word document, if you move the Word document without the image files they will appear as broken links.

There are two reasons that the software works in this way: Firstly many popular anti-virus software do not like applications embedding items in Word documents (requiring users to customise or disable their anti-virus software). Secondly, for reasons known only to Microsoft automating the process of embedding the images takes much longer (perhaps 100 times), compared to when it is done manually within Word.

With builds 302 and later the following registry settings can be made to allow Word documents to be exported containing the pictures. Follow these instructions to make this available:
  1. From Start | Run, type:
    regedit
  2. Within the registry editor, navigate to the key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Dazdaq\Manta
  3. In the right hand pane of the view, right-click and select New | DWORD Value and enter:
    StorePicturesExportWordButton
  4. Next, double click on this new entry and set its value to 1.
  5. In the right hand pane of the view, right-click and select New | DWORD Value and enter:
    DisplayExportWordStorePicturesOpt
  6. Next, double click on this new entry and set its value to 1.

Setting StorePicturesExportWordButton will mean that each time the Export to Word button is pressed, the resulting Word document contains embedded image.

Setting DisplayExportWordStorePicturesOpt will mean that the Store pictures in file option is available in the Export Wizard and the Assay Protocol Editor option.
