My wtypes.dat file is corrupted.Document ID: DQ067
Relevant to following products: WorkOut 2.0 Manta
Document description: Error message: wtypes.dat is corrupted
The error message:
"wtypes.dat has become corrupted. It is recommended that you repair this file or reinstall the software to avoid problems. Do you wish to reload the file now?"
is displayed when launching the software. This can occur if the file becomes corrupted. There are 2 resolutions for this:
1. Replace the wtypes.dat file with a valid file:
wtypes.dat is located in the installation directory (such as
C:\Program Files\Dazdaq\WorkOut 2.0 or
C:\Program Files\Dazdaq\Manta) The file wtyptes.bak is also located in this directory and can be used to replace the corrupt file. To do this delete the corrupted wtypes.dat file and copy and rename the wtyptes.bak file to wtypes.dat stored in the installation file.
If you cannot find wtypes.bak in the installation directory a valid wtypes.dat file is available for download from here.
2. Uninstall and reinstall the software.
Ensure you have the latest version of the software
Avoiding this problem
The WTYPES.DAT file stores ALL users defined well types (e.g. if you add your own sample types). This file is shared between data files and is accessed every time a results/protocol/mlo file is opened. The software checks that the file is not in use (sharing violation) by another process before it attempts to read it. If the file is in use then a warning message is displayed asking the user to retry when the file becomes available. Opening several results files at once may cause this prompt on certain configurations.
In builds 316 and earlier the user is allowed to continue without successfully loading the file (i.e. select No to the retry and No to the reload and if prompted change WTYPES.DAT to not read-only, after this the file becomes corrupted). It is highly likely that this is the way which the WTYPES.DAT can become corrupted.
Thus, if prompted to retry then avoing selecting No as this will corrupt the file.
