I receive a warning message about wtypes.dat file?

Document ID: DQ008
Relevant to following products: Manta WorkOut 2.0 WorkOut 2.5
Document description: Error Message: wtypes.dat

A message is displayed reading: The File: wtypes.dat could not be accessed because: Access is denied Do you wish to retry?

This occurs if the current user is a limited user (not an administrator) without write permissions on this file and is trying to change sample type information.

Manta/WorkOut stores sample type information in the WTYPES.DAT file, this file is used by all users of the software.  By default only administrator users can modify sample type information.   If limited users are to be allowed to create/edit sample type information then permission must be granted in the Windows file system.

When this message occurs in Windows XP use the Switch User option to log in as an administrator, make the changes described below, and switch back to the limited user and press retry to continue.

Enabling file permissions depends on your file system.  In any case use an administrator account:

For NTFS simply select the file in Explorer select Properties and use the Security tab to enable read and write permissions on this file.  (If you do not have a Security tab here your file system is not NTFS).

For FAT32 you cannot set individual permissions on a file.  Instead the Manta/WorkOut installation folder must be shared on the network (even if you are not using a network).  To do this right click on the installation folder (e.g. c:\Program Files\Dazdaq\Manta), select Sharing and Security and tick Share this folder on the network and Allow network users to change my files.
